Project Snapshot:
- Industry: Premium Private Tour Guide Services
- Location: Salzburg, Austria (Europe)
- Languages Targeted: English, German, French, and Italian
- Campaign Duration: July 2025 to Present (Ongoing)
The Real Challenge: A Broken Foundation and Fierce Competitors
When this premium tour guide service partnered with me in July 2025, they were completely invisible in the top Google Map Pack results. The problems were massive:
- A Completely Broken Foundation: The initial website structure was a disaster. The core English content was poorly written, lacked local relevancy, and had zero proper SEO structure.
- Multilingual Complexity: The site needed to rank for tourists searching in English, German, French, and Italian.
- The Winter Off-Season: From December to March, heavy snow causes walking tours to shut down. This meant a very tight marketing budget.
- Targeted Competitor Attacks: As soon as we started fixing the site and our rankings began to rise, older competitors targeted the website with a massive Negative SEO attack to pull us down.
The Execution: A Start-to-Finish Rebuild
I did not just apply basic SEO fixes. I tore down the bad work and rebuilt the entire digital presence from scratch. Here is exactly how I executed the campaign from start to finish:
Step 1: Rebuilding the Website Structure and English Content
Before doing anything else, the foundation had to be fixed. The original English content and site architecture were completely wrong.
- Complete Content Rewrite: I spent massive amounts of time and effort completely rewriting the English content. I crafted highly persuasive, geo-targeted service pages that actually spoke to premium tourists and satisfied Google’s guidelines.
- Fixing the Architecture: I completely restructured the website. I built a proper local SEO silo, organizing the core services logically so that search engines could finally understand what the website was about.
Step 2: Technical SEO and the Multilingual Setup
Once the core English structure was perfect, I expanded the technical setup for the other languages.
- Proper Hreflang Implementation: I configured the site’s code to flawlessly handle English, German, French, and Italian, ensuring Google showed the correct language to the correct users across Europe.
- Technical Health: I cleaned up broken links, optimized loading speeds, and made sure the new structure was easily crawlable by search engines.
Step 3: Deep On-Page SEO Across All Languages
With the structure and tech in place, I executed strict On-Page SEO to make sure every single page ranked.
- Title and Meta Optimization: I crafted highly clickable, geo-targeted title tags and meta descriptions tailored specifically for English, German, French, and Italian searchers.
- Heading Architecture (H1, H2, H3): I perfectly organized the heading tags to naturally include local Salzburg keywords without any spammy keyword stuffing.
- Internal Linking: I built a strong internal linking structure between the translated pages and the core service pages to pass maximum ranking authority throughout the entire website.
Step 4: GBP Audit and Perfect Alignment
With a powerful, optimized website ready, I moved to the Google Business Profile (GBP).
- I audited the top competitors in Salzburg to see exactly what services were driving their traffic.
- I completely optimized my client’s GBP, adding the right primary and secondary categories.
- The Relevancy Loop: I aligned the newly structured website perfectly with the GBP. Every service listed on the map pack was now directly linked to the brand new, highly optimized landing pages I had written.
Step 5: Investigating Stagnation & The Ongoing Fight Against Negative SEO
About two months into the campaign, despite having a perfect technical and on-page foundation, the rankings were not growing as expected. To find out exactly why, I ran a deep backlink analysis.
-
I discovered a massive Negative SEO attack: over 120 highly toxic, spammy backlinks were actively suppressing the site.
-
When I started the project, the site had fewer than 10 links in total. I verified with the client, who confirmed they had never paid for any link-building or citations before. It was clear competitors were using dirty tactics to hold rising businesses down.
-
I immediately submitted a strict disavow file to Google to neutralize the threat. However, this is an ongoing battle. I continuously monitor her link profile and aggressively fight off new toxic spam links to protect our hard-earned growth.
Step 6: Budget-Friendly Off-Page SEO (The Winter Strategy)
Because the European winter off-season meant a tight marketing budget, we could not spend thousands on premium backlinks.
- Instead, I focused aggressively on high-quality, free local citations to build authentic local trust.
- We carefully selected just a few highly relevant, low-cost paid linking opportunities. This smart approach built massive local authority without wasting the client’s money.
The Results: Explosive Growth in Search and Maps
By completely rebuilding the content and structure, executing deep On-Page SEO, aligning the GBP, and defending against toxic attacks, we turned a broken website into a highly profitable lead generation machine.
Google Business Profile Dominance:
- Reached 263 total direct interactions directly from the Map Pack.
- Generated a massive 42.7% increase in customer engagement, proving our new structure perfectly captured the market.
Organic Website Growth (Google Search Console):

- Rapidly scaled organic visibility, reaching 5.71K total impressions.
- Secured highly consistent clicks with a strong Click Through Rate (CTR) of 2.3% in a market dominated by massive global travel agencies.
